The Mulberry River is also recognized as one of the Ozark's finest smallmouth streams. 

Arkansas is known as The Natural State so along with many outside activities hiking and trail bike riding are ever growing popular Arkansas activities.  Many motorcycle riders also enjoy riding up to Horseshoe Mountain and lake then going north to the town of Oark where the oldest general store in Arkansas exists.  Many people stop there to sample some of their fine country style cuisine. It is located on Scenic Highway 21. This National Forest Scenic Byway travels north from Clarksville to the Johnson county line, showing great views of the Ozark National Forest. 

For Golf, there is the nearby Meadowbrook Country Club.  A lovely golf course located on N. State Highway 109 in beautiful Paris, Arkansas.  479 963-8025.

Fishing licenses and permits are sold in many of the little markets along Rt. 64 and fishing tournments are scheduled during the fishing season.

Altus is also known as one of the Natural States Bird Sanctuaries.  Throughout the year birds abound in the lush trees and forests.

The Altus Museum

THE HERITAGE HOUSE MUSEUM

Telephone 479-468-1310.  Located on the corner across the street from the park in downtown Altus, the museum features many items of interest depicting the coal mining era as well as local family histories and photos in Franklin Country and the surrounding area.  So interesting, it should not be missed.

Dedicated to the miners who worked in the mines and to their families who endured the hardships with them.  Inscribed on five marble monuments are 2500 names of miners, many of whom lost their lives in the mines. Located in the beautiful Arkansas River Valley at the foot of the Boston Mountains.
